Not-So-Speedy Dressage
From Endurance to Dressage
Online retailers are getting more and more creative in their approach to finding whatever it is I need. If I Google something, anything, I am guaranteed to see it on my Facebook feed within the hour. I bought a C4 belt the other day from my laptop, and my husband started to see C4 belt ads on his Facebook feed. We don't share any devices. How does that happen? Over the weekend, I got one of SmartPak's regular emails with the message, "it's cold at your barn." SmartPak then asked if I needed a new turnout, possibly a Weatherbeeta. The email came with a really clever widget - the predicted weather for Bakersfield over the next week. I know competition is fierce amongst online retailers, and marketing plans need to be ever more creative to catch the eye of consumers like myself, but in this particular instance, I think the plan hit a snag. If I had put a turnout on one of my horses yesterday or even this Thursday, I might have killed him!
I am not criticizing SmartPak's promotional strategy; I just found this particular email quite funny. I am sure it is an effective ad if you live in Wisconsin or Minnesota or almost anywhere else in the US, but here in sunny California, it should have been an ad for fly sheets! I still love you, SmartPak - thanks for the laugh!

I must admit I've never experienced this for some reason. I only use facebook to read what is up with my family and a few friends in America. I have never had an advertisement targeted at me on any platform. Except Amazon seems to know me pretty well: ) That must be my ad-block, then, it really works. Hm. 1/18/2016 08:30:56 am
It happens to me ALL THE TIME!!! I do virtually all of my shopping online though so it's no surprise. It was annoying at Christmas though because everything I bought for gifts showed up in the ad section off to the side, and I didn't want my husband peeking over my shoulder and seeing it :0)

Maybe adblock will end all that for you: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/ 1/18/2016 08:32:36 am
It probably looked more enticing to you with the cooler weather - I burst out laughing. Can you imagine blanketing with a turnout rug at 73 degrees! I just found it pretty funny. :0) 1/18/2016 10:08:13 am
The Smartpak ad kind of creeped me out since the city listed was where my horses live not where I live. I've never had anything shipped to my barn so how do they know?? 1/19/2016 06:45:59 pm
That is TOTALLY weird!!!!!! I'll take a funny ad with warm temps over your weather any day. OMG, how do you live like that??!?!?!?! :0)

Thanks, I did what you suggested, m. We'll see if it slows 'em down for a while. :0) 1/19/2016 06:48:53 pm
Bwahahaha! Too funny!!! I live in the land of mild weather only, thanks. The only extreme weather we get is HOT. Like 112 hot - well not EVERY day, but even three times a summer is too many. :0) Comments are closed.
