Not-So-Speedy Dressage
From Endurance to Dressage
In early March, Dr. Tolley diagnosed Izzy with a sarcoid on his sheath. A sarcoid is a small tumor that doesn't metastasize, but they can be problematic. Dr. Tolley wanted to treat Izzy's in the simplest way first. For six days, I applied a swath of Xxterra Bloodroot paste. The effects of the bloodroot were ... alarming, but it seems to have (mostly) done the job. I captured almost daily photos of Izzy's sheath to show how dramatic the treatment turned out to be. One or two of the photos are quite ugly, so zoom past those if you're squeamish. As painful and uncomfortable as the process seemed, I rode Izzy through it all. Dr. Tolley agreed that exercise was probably a good thing as it increased blood flow to the area. I am not convinced that the sarcoid is gone as there is a small bump where the sarcoid started, but Dr. Tolley recommended that we leave it alone for a few months. It might be scar tissue or dead tissue that has not yet finished healing.
If indeed the sarcoid is still there, Dr. Tolley had a few other suggestions for removing it. I'll let you know next fall what we decide to do. For now, it's business as usual. 5/4/2016 07:20:36 am
My husband saw the photos on my computer a few times and asked what the hell I was taking pictures of. :0)

I've never heard of that stuff but YIKES. Fingers crossed that it did the trick! 5/4/2016 07:22:46 am
NOT what I was expecting, for sure. It actually looks pretty good, but we'll see if it grows back. 5/4/2016 05:01:35 pm
For him for sure. :0) 5/10/2016 06:05:38 am
So far so good. I showed this blog post to my vet so that he could see teh progression of photos and he thought it looked like that last spot was just a bit of scarring. He'll look at it again in the fall to be sure. Comments are closed.
