Not-So-Speedy Dressage
From Endurance to Dressage
One of my strengths is being able to compartmentalize the stressors in my life. At least while I am at the barn. At home, I can let the stress get to me, but at the barn, I can almost always flip the switch and be very present. It's not necessarily that I make that my goal; it's just that being with my horses is more interesting than my work or life problems. Speedy is much more sympathetic if I am an emotional wreck, and he even pulls some of the negativity energy away for me. I am not sure what he does with it, but I am always grateful when he picks me and puts me back on my feet. Over the years, I've learned that Izzy doesn't cope well with my dramatic moments. He has enough crazy in his own life that he can't deal with mine, too. When I work with him, I have to check myself when I get out of the truck. That black cloud can follow me to the gate, but that's as far as it's allowed to go. It might still be waiting for me at the end of my day, but Izzy can't make it all better like Speedy can. That's okay though. He makes me take a good hard look at myself, and that is often times all I need. How do people live without horses? Or dogs? Or animals in general?
