Not-So-Speedy Dressage
From Endurance to Dressage
Post-publish edit: entry form has been updated. This is completely local so rather than bore you, why don't you check out what's happening over at SprinklerBandits? If you're still with me, I am just sharing Kern River's (Bakersfield's local CDS chapter) upcoming Ride-a-Test. The event is scheduled for October 20, 2012 at Quiet Creek Ranch. Mary Meyer, an "L" Program Graduate, will be judging. Quiet Creek Ranch is located at 331 Wegis Avenue, Bakersfield, CA 93314. ![]()
If you're somewhat local, this is an excellent opportunity to get your horse and yourself out to a low stress event. You can come show ready including white breeches, coat, and a braided mane, or you can simply show up with the intention of schooling. I am bringing Sydney, but I'll be in schooling breeches, and he won't be braided.
Here's a photo from January's event ... I hope to see you there!
This would be great to take Olympus to, but dang that schoolwork...plus the drive back to Bakersfield! It'd be cool if the club could do every other month, so riders could have a more regular schooling opportunity for horses.

School definitely takes priority. I don't think the Kern River Chapter has enough energy, or people, to do this more than once or twice a year. It's a pretty small group of ladies. But you're right - monthly would be AWESOME. :0)

I am seriously considering attending this schooling show. It would be my first one, and I hope to redeem myself after the last one and end this season on a more positive note :)

Angela - this is a VERY casual event. You'll be assigned 15 minutes to use the arena and judge however you'd like. You can repeat a movement, ride it straight through, ride only certain parts, and so on. The judge is there to give you feedback. Last year I I had to school Speedy hard pretty in one spot because he reared and got naughty. No biggie. The judge just scored my first attempt at the movement and then let me school. I then had a chat with her and re-rode the whole test. It's a cheap way to practice a show - come on down!!!!
