From Endurance to Dressage
Happy "Gotcha" Day
I never remember to celebrate the days I got Speedy or Izzy ... or any of the other horses that I've owned. I bought Izzy the day after Thanksgiving, so this year I remembered his "Gotcha" day, but I didn't write a post about it.
That means I've had him one whole year now. Of course, I am not that interested in reminiscing about his first few months as they strike me as bittersweet. While I am delighted to have him in my little family, the circumstances surrounding his first few months in my ownership are less than happy ones. I am looking forward to his second "Gotcha" anniversary!
Speedy's "Gotcha" Day, which actually happened on December 8, 2007, brings back lots of fun memories. Eight years later, that dude has turned out to be all that I had hoped for.
Speedy is definitely the poster child for "Give it Time." It took at least three years for him to grow up and act his age. Every time another birthday rolled around, I swore I would never buy another three year old ... or a four year old ... or even a six year old!
At eleven years young, he has finally lived up to his name - G Ima Starr FA.
Happy Gotcha Day, Speedy G!

Wow, Speedy's mane is SO DARK!!!

It's very typical for gray Arabs to be born with dark dapples (Speedy was) and dark manes and tails that lighten with age. I am pretty "lucky" that Speedy's mane and tail still have color. By his age, they've usually gone white already. :0)

Some take longer than others. Congrats!

Isn't that the truth!

That's because Arabs are sloooow to mature. :0)

About the Writer and Rider
I am a lifelong rider.
I began endurance riding in 1996 where I ultimately completed five, one-day 100 mile races, the 200-mile Death Valley Encounter, and numerous other 50, 65, and 75 mile races. I began showing dressage in 2010.
Welcome to my dressage journey.
About Speedy G
Speedy went from endurance horse to dressage horse. After helping me earn a USDF Bronze medal in the summer of 2020, he is now semi-retired. Speedy is a 2004, 15'1 hand, purebred Arabian gelding. His Arabian Horse Registry name is G Ima Starr FA.
Izzy was started as a four-year old and then spent the next 18 months in pasture growing up. I bought him as a six-year old, and together, we are showing at the lower levels. He is a 2008, 16'3 hand warmblood gelding. His Rheinland Pfalz-saar International (RPSI) name is Imperioso.
