Not-So-Speedy Dressage
From Endurance to Dressage
I am not thrilled with the score (58.130%), but it's probably what we earned. I think getting bucked off 30 minutes before the test played a role in the score, but I can't blame that for everything. After getting bucked off, I put Speedy G in the round pen for a few minutes to let him get all the bucks out of his system. By the time LB finished cleaning me up, I had exactly 10 minutes for a warm up. Speedy's body was warmed up, but he wasn't the relaxed dude that I normally get. I was able to get him decently on the bit, but not nearly as well as I might have been able to do had I had a more traditional warm up. My right seat bone was on fire which didn't help my aids at all, but hey, stuff happens. I paid my money so the show had to go on.
Most of the scores are what I expected. There are lots of 6s and even a 7. It was the stretchy trot that really hurt us for this test. I am not surprised that he wouldn't stretch down. My body was very tense even though I was trying hard to relax. The 3 that the judge gave me was the lowest score I've ever received. Double ouch! Here is the score sheet.

Yuck - that must have been very disappointing. This is a humbling sport for sure. I don't mind the experience (too much) as it only gives me more knowledge to use in the future. Our next three-star event is the 9 & 10 of June. Hopefully we'll be pulled together by then. 5/22/2012 10:34:27 pm

Thank you, Lori. You were such a great support in what might have other wise been a melt-down for me. You were calm, steady, and even keeled. I really needed that. My butt HURTS and the bruise is at least 10 inches wide. it's now traveling down my thigh, I am worried I won't be able to ride this weekend. Crud!

So sorry, Lori!!!!!! Sometimes I have to guess commenter's identities. It was my friend Lori who came to my rescue at the show (I identified her as LB) I am glad to know you'd have my back if we were ever at the same event! :0)

I admire you for even getting back on. Besides that, every show is a learning experience.

Thanks, Mom, but I don't feel very accomplished for just getting back on. I did that more out of spite! :0)

Riding well while in pain is very difficult, but clearly you still succeeded, because you had lots of decent scores. The stretchy trot has a coefficient of 2, which is why it affected your score so much. You made the best of it, when most of us would not have entered at A after that fall.

That's why I really want to "confirm" the stretchy trot - it's worth so much. Fixing that will really boost our scores. And besides that, it illustrates acceptance. Without Speedy truly reaching for the contact, we can't advance. That's why I am so disappointed with the score. He can do it at home, but at shows he's just not as relaxed. But that's why showing is really helpful - it "shows" what needs to be fixed! Comments are closed.
