Not-So-Speedy Dressage
From Endurance to Dressage
A week or so ago, Speedy G pulled a shoe while on a trail ride. I popped on an Easy Boot and then did a quick blog about the Easy Boot here and here. As a follow-up, I decided to take a few more pictures (click picture for larger view) so that you can see how the heel strap works, and how I carry the Easy Boot with the supplies necessary to put it on. The photo on the left shows the heel strap with a nylon strap already in place. The horse's toe goes in first, and the boot is wiggled and shimmied until the toe is all the way forward. With the hoof firmly resting on the ground, grab both of the ends of the nylon strap and gently tug the rubber heel strap over the horse's heel bulbs. Release one end of the nylon strap and pull the other end until the strap is completely free of the boot. In the previous posts, I showed a photo of how the cable can be tightened to hold the boot in place.
My endurance saddle has a cantle pack with two pouches on either side that hold an Easy Boot each, although I only actually carry one for regular trail riding. I fill the boot with the nylon strap, a roll of Vet Wrap in a Ziploc bag, a multi-use tool, and a hoof pick. The Easy Boot "bundle" slides into the cantle bag pouch, and it's ready for when Speedy G might next pull a shoe. Comments are closed.
