Not-So-Speedy Dressage
From Endurance to Dressage
I want to introduce you to the dear friend who has been helping out with Izzy. She's made a few appearances here and there in the blog before, but for this post, she deserves ALL the words. Meet my oldest friend, KG. We've been friends for at least twenty years, so she's the one I call when a horse thing pops up. When I needed to go and get Izzy, she was in the truck before I had to ask. And if you all think you were angry on my behalf, you should have seen KG. She doesn't pull any punches. She's been at the barn three afternoons this week to help me wrap Izzy's leg. He's been good, but I know it's because he had such a friendly and supportive handler. As I took off the old wrap, she would tell me how he was doing with the pressure of me picking at the wound. On her word, I would give him a break or pause and pat him. When she came over on Friday afternoon, she brought Izzy (and Speedy) an apple. While Izzy doesn't quite appreciate apples yet, he was in her pocket after that (literally and figuratively).
As I unwrapped the wound, we chatted while Izzy stood very patiently. He hardly moved at all. KG gave him a big pat on the neck and called him a good solider. It seemed to be quite an appropriate nickname given all that he has gone through. And sadly, what still lies ahead will require a solid heart and nerves of steel. Soldier. She tried the name out a few times and liked it. I do too. |
