Not-So-Speedy Dressage
From Endurance to Dressage
Hey, guess what I found? If you read the title you'll get the answer right. If you skipped the title, take a guess. You guessed right! I found a schooling show series a little bit closer to Bakersfield. It's a five show series in the Sunland area at the Hansen Dam Equestrian Center. I am familiar with the HDEC since a fall endurance ride was held there for many years. It's an easy drive that takes about an hour and a half. Not exactly local, but better than the two plus hours I sometimes have to do.
Anyhoo, the series is hosted by Pacific Dressage, LLC. I am giving the first show a try, and if it turns out to be a fun and friendly atmosphere, I'll try doing as many of their other shows as possible. Frankly, at the lower levels, it doesn't matter to me if the show is rated or not. Schooling shows are cheaper and a great way to gain experience. The first show is on the 12th, just two weeks away. My entry is in yesterday's mail. I am a little surprised at my impulsiveness as I usually need to think about an event for several weeks or months. I threw caution to the wind and sent in my entry. I'll time the drive to the equestrian center on Saturday as we drive right by it on the way to Horse Expo. Let the show season begin ... or continue!

No link for the shows, but you can contact Claudia at the link above as she is sponsoring/organizing the series. AND ... the shows go through September! I'll have a blog post in a day or so that shows the schedule. Open Dressage shows run all year long and you can find out more about that schedule by going to the CDS website. CDS is the primary GMO of the USDF so it "sanctions" the rated shows. Or, you can use my showing dressage link above. Schooling shows are not rated by CDS and take a bit more looking to find. Using the CDS Activities page can help you locate more of the non-rated dressage shows.

Thanks! I'm going to look into it. I like the Hansen Dam area a lot and it'd be nice to hit a show or two over the 'vine. I think I might try to get some sort of list of shows I'm considering up sometime this weekend!

Over on the right side of my blog, I keep a list of shows I am considering. I need to add these five shows to it, but you can look at that list to see what's semi-local.
